It happens again and again that film and series creators in Hollywood are unexpectedly pulled away from their projects. Often it’s about creative differences behind the scenes. Sometimes the problems are more profound. The latest case from Marvel is causing a stir because of its timing.
Beau DeMayo, the creator of the Marvel animated series X-Men ’97 fired a few days before the start of the series. In fact, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news the day before the Hollywood premiere. The series starts next Wednesday on Disney+. Now she is left without her creative mind.

DeMayo’s firing comes as a shock to many Marvel fans. Last but not least, he has in recent years several projects from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). On Moon Knight he co-wrote the third episode. He also wrote a draft for the upcoming Blade film.

In addition to being a series creator, he was also involved as a writer and producer on X-Men ’97. According to the Hollywood Reporter, he even has all of his writing duties for the 2nd season already ordered completed. He is said to have even thought about a possible third season of the animated series.
However, he will not be on the red carpet at the premiere of his own work this Wednesday. All interviews during the promotional tour have also been canceled. Even his Instagram account, where DeMayo has posted regular updates on the series’ progress over the past few years, he deleted.
The reason: unknown. Although The Hollywood Reporter reached out to DeMayo’s representatives, there has been no official statement yet. Marvel has also not commented further on the matter. However, the start date of X-Men ’97 doesn’t seem to be changing. The series starts as planned on March 20, 2024 on Disney+.
There are two episodes to start with. The rest of the ten-part debut season follows every week. This means that the release will be delayed until May 15, 2024. What else you should know about X-Men ’97: It is one Sequel to the animated X-Men serieswhich ran on television from 1992 to 1997.
