Alexei Navalny’s former chief of staff, Leonid Volkov, was reportedly attacked on Tuesday in Vilnius, Lithuania.
According to Navalny’s former spokesperson Kira Yarmysh, it happened outside his home.
“Someone broke a car window and sprayed tear gas in his eyes and then hit him with a hammer,” she writes on X.
According to Kira Yarmysh, Volkov is now back in his home. Ambulance and emergency services were sent to the scene after the attack.
Leonid Volkov has lived in exile since the regime in Moscow in 2021 classified Alexei Navalny’s movements as “extremist organizations”.
Photos allegedly show Volkov
Another former employee of Navalny has posted photos on Telegram purportedly showing Volkov after the attack. One of the pictures shows how one of his legs is covered in blood, another picture shows how his car is smashed.
Who is behind the attack is unknown.
Alexei Navalny died on February 16 in a Siberian penal colony, under unclear circumstances.
