CKPL Grows seed library will offer a variety of vegetable, herb and flower seeds at each branch. Last year, more than 6,300 seed packages were distributed across the municipality.

The seed library provides residents an opportunity to grow gardens, have access to affordable food and create beautiful spaces in their own backyards and local communities.

Library members can borrow seeds for free, save seeds from the plants they grow, and return some of those seeds to the library at the end of the growing season for someone else to use.

Gardeners also are encouraged to “grow a row” for the Salvation Army of Chatham-Kent using the seeds. Produce can be donated at Salvation Army food banks located in Chatham (19 Raleigh St.), Blenheim (24 Talbot St.), Ridgetown (19 Main St.) and Wallaceburg (600 Lowe St.)

Murray Street bridge to be closed for repairs

The Murray Street bridge in Wallaceburg will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic between 8 am and 4 pm on Wednesday for balancing and testing of the moveable spans.

During this time, the bridge will not be operable for larger boats to pass under, municipal officials said in a release. However, smaller boats that do not require the bridge to be opened will be accommodated.
