55 year old man tried to push down person in front of

In December 2021, a man stood at the Medborgarplatsen subway station waiting for the next train. Then another 55-year-old man came and pushed him. Only by getting hold of the 55-year-old’s coat did the man manage to avoid ending up on the subway track.

In the judgment which News24 have taken note of, the push must have been strong and the distance to the platform edge short.

The 55-year-old maintains that he is innocent, but surveillance cameras and testimonies speak against this. The 55-year-old is said to have been drunk at the time.

In the Stockholm district court, the 55-year-old was acquitted as they were not convinced that the push was intentional.

The victim could have fallen and been hit by a train

In Svea Court of Appeal, the verdict was different.

The Court of Appeal considered that despite his drunken state, the man should have realized the risk that the victim would “cause serious injury, either by falling onto the track or by being hit by a subway train”.

The 55-year-old is now sentenced to ten months in prison for serious assault. In addition to this, he must also pay damages of SEK 40,000 to the victim.
