Former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández is convicted of aiding and abetting drug trafficking in a New York court. Now the 55-year-old risks a life sentence in the United States.

According to the court, he enlisted the help of the Honduran military and police to assist drug traffickers in smuggling tons of cocaine into the United States.

His sentence will be determined at a later date.

Hernández was president of Honduras from 2014 to 2022. His brother, Juan Antonio “Tony” Hernández – also a former politician – was sentenced three years ago to life for drug trafficking.
