With the PS5 Slim there is a new model of the PS5. MeinMMO introduces you to the similarities and differences between the Slim and the normal PS5.
PS5: What models are there? The slim version of the PS5 has been officially on sale since November 2023. This means that both the old PS5 from 2020 and the new slim model are currently available in stores. However, Sony had already stated that the old PS5 would disappear from the market in the long term and only the PS5 Slim would be sold.
There will also still be details and small differences between the PS5 versions. MeinMMO introduces you to the differences between PS5 Slim and the normal PS5.
PS5 Slim: The most important changes at a glance
New side plates: Sony has given the PS5 a new look. The sides now use 2 plates per side, which are divided by a diagonal black stripe. You can’t use Sony’s official sideplates for the PS5 yet because they no longer fit.
Larger memory: The Slim model has more memory. Instead of 825 GB, you now get 1 TB of storage space that you can use. You can also easily expand the memory of your PS5. You can find the best M.2 SSDs for the PS5 on MeinMMO.
New connection: Sony has swapped a USB-A port on the slim version for another USB-C port.
Lighter and smaller: The Slim model is smaller and, above all, lighter. The old PS5 with drive weighs 4.5 kg, the new PS5 “Slim” only weighs 3.2 kg. The model without a drive only weighs 2.6 kg.
Retrofittable drive: The Digital Edition of the Slim can be retrofitted with a drive. The drive retails for a one-off price of 129.99 euros. You can read about whether the normal PS5 or the Digital Edition is worth it on MeinMMO.
Upright only for an additional charge: The scope of delivery no longer includes a stand for the PS5. If you want to set up your PS5 upright, you have to buy an extra stand for 29.99 euros. The old stand of the old edition is not compatible because the PS5 has become slimmer.

PS5 Slim doesn’t offer any more performance than the old PS5
Is the PS5 Slim better? The new PS5 Slim is lighter, smaller and requires slightly less power. However, the new model is not faster because Sony has not installed any new hardware. The same chip from AMD is still installed. A subsequent upgrade is therefore not really worth it, as you won’t get more performance.
