Carina has raced the Vasaloppet 200 times – breaking the record

Carina Hammarstrand, 61, from Ängelholm has broken a record. During Vasaloppet’s winter week this year, she crossed the finish line for the two hundredth time in a row.
– I love finishing in Mora, she says.

Carina Hammarstrand runs the Vasaloppet every year, and there are several different races each season. So far, she has crossed the finish line 200 times, which is a record.

“Kortvasa, Girl’s vase, Open track, Half vase, relay… When they present their races, I can get nine together,” she says.

All in all, there will be many long miles of skiing.

– A 50 kilometer will be a bit more when there are many races, says Carina.

The body feels good despite the effort. Carina emphasizes that she does not compete, but that she does it because she thinks it’s fun. Elite riders “run out of steam”, while Carina has a different tactic.

– I keep my pace, then I recharge. Eats, sleeps and skis. Then at it again! I think it’s so much fun, so then it works, she says.

Husband Ernst lies in lee

Every new year offers its challenges. This year the bait was a little extra difficult to work with.

– It was wet the whole time. Not a single night with freezing temperatures. It was not good at all.

Husband Ernst, 67, is also a Vasalopps enthusiast, but he is in a leeway compared to his wife.

– He came into my life when I had been doing it for 15 years, but he has been great, says Carina.
