“It’s such a damn shame”

Calle Halfvarsson hesitates about a continuation.
Help is needed for a new venture towards the WC in Norway next season.
– It’s such a damn shame that it has to be like this, he says to Expressen.

Calle Halfvarsson is the great veteran of the Swedish national skiing team. In recent years, the results have not really gone his way, but he is still appreciated in the cabins, for always offering himself, and always saying what he thinks and thinks. But the winter has been heavy for him.

Uncertain about the future

Calle Halfvarsson has fourth place as the best individual result this World Cup season. He came second in the sprint in Lahtis almost a year ago, but since then it has mostly been disappointments. And now he even doubts whether there will be a continuation. Halfvarsson believes that his season was both slow and that it was “another mid-season”. But above all, it is the financial part that must be resolved.

Next season, the WC awaits in Trondheim, on the track where Halfvarsson performed best this winter. That’s his big motivation right now, but he’s not sure he can afford to continue.

– I have to secure income so that I can afford to draw a salary so that I can survive with two children, a house and everything else, says Calle Halfvarsson, who this summer will have her second child with her partner Isabel, to Expressen.

Appeal to the Swedish people

Calle Halfvarsson does not earn huge sums in the form of bonuses for wins and podium places, and he is openly critical of how little contribution the national team skiers in Sweden receive from the ski association.

– I’ve been nagging about this for ten years now. But… it’s such a damn shame that it has to be like this. That even if you are in the A national team, you must constantly feel that you have to go out and collect money to be able to afford to make a proper investment, he says, and continues:

– And it’s not so damn easy to find new sponsors. But isn’t exactly young and promising anymore.

Therefore, Calle Halfvarsson is now appealing to the Swedish people. In the interview with Expressen, he says that it can function as some kind of contact ad aimed at the sponsor world, and Calle would like it to spread.

– Going into my investment is a bit risky. It can be a little bit of anything. It’s not like going in and sponsoring Johannes Hösflot Kläbo, either, he says.

– But it can be a hell of a success with me too.
