Soon afterwards, however, he begins to worry about his inheritance because Moses’ actions fit a mystical prophecy. Thereafter will Moses banished to the desert – the titular exodus from Egypt.
Moses then travels through the desert with his band for 40 years, receives the Ten Commandments and ultimately even rebels against the rule of Egypt. With the result that in Exodus: Gods and Kings bitter battle between the former brothers Ramses and Moses comes, always staged as a visually powerful spectacle.

Opinions differ on the topic of religion and the depiction of it. But that’s not just what the partial bans of Exodus are about: gods and kings. The title was banned in three countries: Egypt, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates either didn’t let the film open in cinemas at all or took it out of the program later.
There was criticism of the film because of Whitewashing: Although the film is set in Egypt, white actors and actresses played the main roles. Very little is historically accurate either, for example, the pyramids were probably not built by Moses and Jewish slaves, but by workers. In addition, there was an exodus accused of being a “Zionist film” and personifying the voice of God also caused a stir. This was reported by The Independent and The Guardian.
