Crown and defense lawyers are expected to discuss this month how to proceed with the case of a Tilbury man charged with second-degree murder after a mental health assessment, a Chatham court heard Tuesday.

Ken Baylis, 34, appeared briefly in court by video link Tuesday. He was charged last April after Daniel Marchand, 45, was found dead in a Tilbury apartment.

Duty counsel told court a mental health assessment of Baylis by Southwestern Ontario psychiatrist William Komer has been reviewed by defense lawyer Greg McGivern, who needs time to discuss the report with the Crown and determine next steps, court heard.
The matter was adjourned to March 22.
A publication ban is in place on evidence heard during this phase in the proceedings.
Marchand, who hadn’t been seen since April 15, 2023, was reported missing April 19, police have said. He was found dead in a Dufferin Avenue apartment complex April 26.
An autopsy found the preliminary cause of death was homicide, police have said.
