Högsby is one of the country’s most equal municipalities

The new report states that none of Sweden’s 290 municipalities have reached complete financial equality. The Swedish national equality goal is that women and men should have the same power to shape society and their own lives.

– We are far from 50:50. Women earn less and are then more at home with the children. This leads to poorer wage growth, poorer careers, poorer health and poorer pensions, says Stefan Westerberg, private economist at Länsförsäkringar.

The report is based on nine areas: Net income, people in managerial positions, VAB, pension, sick leave, parental leave, income among self-employed people, housing allowance and capital income.

The municipality that is best located is Överkalix in Norrbotten, but Högsby municipality in Kalmar county reaches 5th place. It fared worse for another Småland municipality – Gnosjö in Jönköping County is in 9th place among the ten least equal.
