At least a dozen people have died in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince after members of a criminal gang attacked the city’s main prison on Saturday night. The attack caused a mass escape of thousands of prisoners.

According to a reporter from the news agency AFP who visited the prison, there were a dozen bodies outside the building.

The attack came after the criminal gangs that largely control the capital had sparked violence since Thursday last week.

According to Haitian media, the prison had been spied on by drones since Thursday.

The goal is to oust the prime minister
