The shock news has settled like a cloud over the small town of Herning in Jutland, after Kristoffer Olsson’s illness. During Tuesday, his Danish club FC Midtjylland announced that the 28-year-old had lost consciousness at home on February 20 and was taken to Aarhus University Hospital, where he is on a ventilator after suffering an acute brain disease.
On Friday morning, Olsson’s condition was described as “stable” before Midtjylland CEO Claus Steinlein provided more detailed information in an update.
– The latest news is that Kristoffer’s vital organs are working and that the doctors are seeing slight improvements, but the situation is still serious and he has still not been conscious, says Steinlein.

Staff at the club were informed of Olsson’s condition a week ago. Despite an expulsion, third in the table Midtylland then managed to defeat AGF Århus with a last-minute goal last weekend, carrying a shock message that could not reach the public at the time.
Tonight, a meeting with table runner-up FC Copenhagen awaited at home at MCH Arena. The Midtjylland heel dedicated a tifo to Olsson in the eighth minute of the match, after his shirt number.
“Alle elsker Kris i Midtjylland”, read a banner.
“Our Swedish superman kaempe alt vad du kan”, said another. Olssons was celebrated with a standing ovation and the text can be translated as “Our Swedish superman, fight all you can” and “everyone loves Kris in Midtjylland”, while they sang Olsson’s name and showed a flag with his silhouette.
He means a lot
Kristoffer Olsson is on his second stay at Jyllandsklubben. He won the Danish league with FCM in the 2014/15 season before returning to the “wolves” in August 2022. There is no doubt that Olsson’s illness touched the mood both locally and in a larger perspective.
– We have been very affected by it. I also think that the match will be affected by that, says FCM supporter Boy Juul to the Football Channel.
How?
– The thought goes to Olsson. I hope the players are very professional so they can play their game. But I doubt it.
The sporting, is it important today?
– No. It is not. The important thing is Olsson’s health.
Juul believes that the Swede is a fan favorite whose health has affected the condition in Herning.
– We talk a lot about it and we hear about it on our news, on Facebook, about how he is doing. But we got word as late as yesterday that he is on the mend.
And what does Kristoffer Olsson mean to Midtjylland?
– He means a lot, he does. So he is clearly in our hearts.
