Vanninen won silver in the pentathlon. It is the second medal in the history of Finland from the indoor track World Championships. The previous one was Mika Halvarin from bullion in 1995.

Vanninen, 20, has won everything possible in youth competitions. In the summer of 2022, with his heptathlon world championship, he became the only Finn to have won two youth World Championship golds.

In the same summer, for example, it was considered whether Vanninen could even break Sweden’s match legend by Carolina Klüft ME points in the under-20 series.

At the sports gala, Vanninen has been chosen three times as Young Athlete of the Year.

It has been clear that this is an exceptional young Finnish athlete.

– A familiar saying: modesty beautifies. It fits Saga perfectly, said ‘s expert Tuomas Rajawhen Vanninen got his World Championship silver in Glasgow.

That’s right, because Vanninen is a hard-headed athlete who really lets his performances speak for themselves. In interviews, the answers are short and concise.

In the WC halls, Vanninen had commented on his back pain For news: “My back hurt. Then it hurt.”

– It’s really nice that you were able to succeed here in the broken (indoor) competitions just fine, I’m happy, Vanninen told Urheilu.

Vanninen said that he had a bad start in the fences. In the background, in the back of my mind, I was haunted by the thief’s departure of the SM halls, which led to the rejection.

There was a great success in the high jump (179), because it was a sport that the coach Jesse Jokinen too was afraid in advance.

– There was no overtaking in the heat jumps, but in the race I still got a good result for the current level. Other pretty basic species. At 800 meters, securing the time, I started to run, when the ranking was pretty clear.

Then came another comment, which was guaranteed to be about Vanni.

– But… quite basic.

Vanninen returned to the arena on Friday evening as the leader of the race. In the daytime section, he had run 8.33 in the 60-meter hurdles, therefore exceeded 179 in height and won the shot put with a result of 15.01.

– It wasn’t the position you expected when you started the race, but it was a really good feeling.

Before the competition, Vanninen had said because of his back problem that all other sports were uncertain except the shot put. Did this really happen or did the Finnish teenager keep his card hidden?

– Well. There have been challenges with the lower back. Last week I high jumped for the first time since the summer. It didn’t have a terribly confident feeling.

You are the first Finnish World Indoor medalist in 29 years and the first Finnish woman to receive a medal.

– It’s a great thing.
