US fire officials continue to fight the largest wildfire in the history of the state of Texas. At least two people have died in the fires – the worst of which is called the Smokehouse Creek fire.
Hardest hit was the town of Stinnett, which was completely engulfed in flames. All 1,600 residents had left the town before the fire. Several other communities were also affected by the forest fire, where burnt out wrecks of cars, charred livestock and destroyed buildings show traces of the wildfires.
Only about five percent of the extensive fire was under control Friday night. However, a snowy weather on Thursday helped the rescue team in the extinguishing work.
The authorities do not know what caused the fires, but strong winds combined with dry grass and unusually warm weather are believed to be the reason for the extent of the fire.
