At the end of December 2023, the Havana government recognized that it could not continue to subsidize fuel prices due to lack of foreign currency. A population torn by the crisis
This increase in gasoline prices is having difficulty getting through to the population tormented by the crisis. During January, long queues formed in particular in front of service stations. The Minister of the Economy had to resign. And yet the reform came into force. To the great dismay of the eleven million inhabitants of Cuba for whom getting around the island has become quite a headache.
The only consolation for Cubans: exports of Cuban cigars, the island’s main export products, are increasing by more than 30%.
