New MMORPG Camelot Unchained has a release date after 11 years

Camelot Unchained has been in development since 2013. The MMORPG comes from developer Marc Jacobs, who became known for the popular PvP MMORPG Dark Age of Camelot. Since Camelot Unchained is supposed to be the spiritual successor, anticipation for the game was great. Now the MMORPG finally has a release date.

When will Camelot Unchained be released? As MassivelyOP reports, Camelot Unchained will be released “late next year.” Accordingly, we can expect a release for the end of 2025.

This means that a years-long odyssey may finally come to an end. Camelot Unchained has a long history behind it:

The long development time is accompanied by the problem that the MMORPG no longer seems as “fresh” as it did 11 years ago. The state of technology is now different, which is why the ambitious project could be considered “outdated” today.

Hopefully Camelot Unchained doesn’t suffer the same fate as other crowdfunded MMORPGs:

Fans are not satisfied with the release in 2025

Why are fans so angry about this? Many users are commenting in a thread on reddit that Final Stand: Ragnarök has now become the development studio’s main project. Here the early access phase begins in March, whereas financiers of Camelot Unchained have to wait until 2025.

  • This would mean fans have to wait a full 12 years for Camelot Unchained
  • Final Stand: Ragnarök was only 4 years in development
  • Many players fear that other circumstances will force the development team to release Camelot Unchained at the end of 2025. For example, user Neither_Ad5683 thinks that the EA phase of Camelot Unchained will be a disaster.

Some users accuse the studio of only taking the money for Camelot Unchained to finance the development of the in-house Unchained engine. User donlema writes, for example:

Your dream was Camelot Unchained. His dream was to take money from you and build a game engine that he could sell. Imagine that. Once a crook, always a crook.

Other users are happy that they decided not to support the project or withdrew their funding.

If the development continues to be under a bad star, Camelot Unchained could end up like Crowfall: MMORPG was in development for 7 years – has to shut down again after only 1.5 years, at least for the time being
