A long-time successful skier in Sweden Charlotte Kalla will end his racing career this season. Kalla, 34, who has reached three Olympic golds in her career, announced her decision on Tuesday on her Instagram account.
– The Swedish championships in domestic landscapes (in Piitime this week) are the last for me as a top athlete. I started skiing here at the age of seven, and it feels good to end my career here, Kalla wrote.
– The decision has matured in the last month. It wasn’t an easy decision, but curiosity about life outside of top-level sports weighed more in the balance than an ongoing commitment to pursuing a career.
Kalla won Olympic gold in three consecutive games (2010, 2014, 2018) and also six Olympic silver medals. At this year’s Beijing Olympics, he didn’t make it to the top matches. On the World Championships, he won three golds and a total of 13 medals.
