Shortly after 10 p.m., the emergency services were called to a seven-story building where an apartment on the first floor was on fire.
– The fire did not spread to other apartments, but there was a development of smoke inside basically the entire house. We had to evacuate people via, among other things, ladder travel, says Josefin Lindblom, command operator at Stockholm’s fire brigade.
18 people have been taken to hospital by ambulance.
– Above all, they have smoke damage to varying degrees. I have no further information beyond that, says Lisa Thorsén, press spokesperson for the Stockholm region.
Extensive smoke development
Within an hour the fire was out, but the emergency services remained for a couple of hours to ventilate the building.
The police have launched a preliminary investigation into aggravated arson.
– We will carry out a technical investigation when we can enter the building, says press spokesperson Per Fahlström at the Stockholm Police.
