On Wednesday, the European Parliament voted yes to the European Commission’s proposal for a new driver’s license directive. The new rules mean, among other things, that the age limit for driving an A-tractor is raised, most likely to 16 years. It also means that the maximum speed is increased from 30 kilometers per hour to 45.
In order to be able to drive an A tractor, you will need a so-called B1 driver’s license in the future, which is common to all Member States. The driving license is intended for young people from 16 years of age up to 21 years of age and requires both a theory test and a driving test. Currently, an AM driving license is required to drive an A tractor.
The proposal for a new driver’s license directive was put forward by the European Commission a year ago, and aims, among other things, to improve the safety of everyone in traffic and help the EU achieve its vision of zero traffic fatalities.
In Sweden, both politicians and young people with A-tractors have criticized the proposal for reducing the mobility of young people in the countryside.
