According to Håkan Svenneling, the Left Party is “safe” in its opposition to Swedish membership.
– NATO could be a completely different organization within ten years if, for example, Trump becomes president, he says.
A number of other organisations, including Swedish Peace, maintain their criticism of NATO. Chairwoman Kerstin Bergeå says she feels a “justified concern”.
– It is a costly and dangerous misprioritisation. It does not contribute to increased security but to a more militarized world, she says.
– It was the threat from Russia that made Sweden, without debate, quickly submit an application to NATO. But if we look at whether Donald Trump would become president of the United States, if we look at Slovakia, Hungary, Turkey, they have a completely different view of Putin’s rule than we have in Sweden.
According to her, the decision was made too quickly.
– If there had been time for a thorough analysis, we might not be standing here today.
