On the occasion of the mobility fair in Barcelona, Samsung is revealing a little more about its future connected ring, the Galaxy Ring. A ring with a sleek design, with numerous sensors to monitor your health.
Connected rings are about to hit the market to help us monitor our health and physical activities. Much more discreet and lighter than watches and bracelets – not everyone wants to carry a huge watch around on their arm all day – they offer many functions despite their small size. If, until now, only certain well-specialized manufacturers have entered the market, such as Oura, Movano and Ultrahuman, big names in technology like Samsung seem to be gradually getting into it. Moreover, the Korean manufacturer confirmed, a little over a month ago, that it was working on its first connected ring, the Galaxy Ring. On the occasion of MWC 2024, which is currently being held in Barcelona, the manufacturer provided more information about it and even put it on display for visitors. So, what does this new high-tech gem offer us?
Samsung Galaxy Ring: a ring for your health
Visitors to the MWC had the chance to get up close to the ring, exhibited under a bell jar. Offered in three colors – black, gold and silver – and in nine sizes – so that everyone can find the right shoe – it has a very refined design, with quality finishes. Various sensors are present inside the ring.
In A press release, Samsung returns to the functions and characteristics of the object. The Galaxy Ring will primarily be focused on tracking activity, sleep and health data. So, a sleep apnea feature will detect signs of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea. The manufacturer does not give much more details, but we can expect health measurements similar to what we already find on connected watches, such as measuring heart rate, blood oxygen, tracking the number of daily steps, monitoring sleep quality, measuring body temperature as well as an electrocardiogram.
According to information from The Verge, the Galaxy Ring will benefit from Samsung’s partnership with Natural Cycles — which already offers period and fertility tracking to the Galaxy Watch — and a new metric that Samsung will soon introduce in the Health app, called My Vitality Score. of vitality). This will integrate four factors: sleep, activity, resting heart rate and heart rate variability. The ring could also serve as a touch wheel for the Galaxy Buds, to increase and decrease the volume, but also to take or reject calls.
The Galaxy Ring will be released in the second half of 2024. We can expect a more comprehensive announcement at this summer’s Galaxy Unpacked conference, at the same time as the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, as well as the Galaxy Watch 7.
