It’s time to name the world’s best athletes.
Then again, Armand Duplantis is one of the candidates.
But golf sensation Ludvig Åberg is also nominated.
The prestigious Laureus World Sports Awards is the best thing an athlete can receive and can be equated with the designation “best in the whole world”. This year’s award will be handed out in Madrid in April and now the biggest stars are lining up.
Mondo nominated
The tennis star Novak Djokovicthe soccer giants Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland are some of the nominees. Also the Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis has been nominated in the category “Male athlete of the year” when the sports year 2023 is to be summed up.

It is the second time in his career that “Mondo” has been nominated for the prestigious award, the last time was in 2021 when Rafael Nadal won the award. Duplantis has had an absolutely fantastic 2023 with WC outdoor gold and double world records.

The jury of the Laureus World Sports Awards consists of 69 members and includes famous names such as Lindsey Vonn, Yao Ming and Miss Franklin. They have produced all the nominees and also found another Swede.

The blue-yellow golf shooting star Ludvig Åberg has also taken place among the candidates in the “Team of the Year” category, as part of Europe’s Ryder Cup team. In the past, only one Swedish athlete has received an award from the Laureus World Sports Awards, and that was the icon Annika Sorenstam who received the great honor of “Female Athlete of the Year” in 2004.
