What a spectacular fiasco in Norway over the weekend!
Now the icon Therese Johaug rages after the thunderous miss.
– I would have been pissed off, she says to Dagbladet.
The Norwegian championships were decided over the weekend, but the ladies’ mass start over 20 km was total chaos. Halfway into the competition, the TV experts did not understand a bit when they thought that the big star Heidi Weng went the wrong way.
Chaos in Norway
But then it turned out that she was one of the few who actually drove correctly – and that the majority of the starting field drove the track completely wrong. Weng was also first across the finish line, but it turned out that half the starting field apparently rode a distance that was 2-300 meters longer.

Therefore, the organizer chose to step in and cancel the entire race after the great chaos. A controversial decision that caused tears in Norway.
– The jury has made the decision that the race must be canceled completely. I, as an organizer, have made a mistake that led several practitioners down the wrong path. We can’t call this a Norwegian championship. It’s not worthy, I’m ready to cry, says the race leader Torbjörn Broks to Norwegian NRK.
– I don’t care that it doesn’t count. It was a good race for me. When I first got the news, I thought it was me who had gone wrong, says Weng and understands the decision, even if she is deprived of a gold medal.
Johaug rages
One of the Norwegian cross-country skiers who went wrong during the chaos race was Astrid Öyre Slind.
– I never thought of stopping and asking someone. I only drove as it was marked, but I became unsure when I saw that Heidi took a different route, she says to the Norwegian television and radio channel.
– It will be a parody. I would rather have seen Heidi get the gold and have the result stand.
