Trust in political leaders in Sweden is high in comparison to other countries.
Ungdomsbarometer’s latest measurements show that more than half of young people aged 15–24 have answered that they do not believe or partly do not believe that today’s politicians cannot solve various problems in society.
– When you look at the numbers, we have decreasing confidence. At the same time, it must be said that Sweden is generally still at the top as one of the most democratic countries, says Jessica Åkerström, head of analysis at the Youth Barometer.
Personal questions in the call
Major issues such as feminism, racism and the environment have all decreased in interest compared to 2019. However, the environment is still the most important issue for young people, despite a drop of 14 percentage points.
Questions facing young people today are about family, friends and personal finances.
– In part, it is about a major change in identity creation, where we see that it is becoming increasingly interest-oriented and less value-driven. Therefore, the concept of identity has become more fluid and prone to change, says Åkerström.
