It is when darkness falls that he cuts.
We’ve got a brand new “Cobra” in the Master of Masters.
His name is Tony Rickardsson and he is now unstoppable in the SVT programme.
What an incredible display of Tony Rickardsson! Yes, not the actual competitions in the Masters of Champions, because there the speedway icon has unfortunately had no chance during this tough season.
“The Cobra” Tony
No one immediately raised an eyebrow when it became clear that the 53-year-old came last in the fourth episode and then again failed in the qualifiers. Because that’s what it will look like every single week when Tony meets these other physical phenomena.

But what does it do when Rickardsson has taken over the mantle as the new “Cobra” in the Master of Masters. 2013 passed Bernt Johansson all the way to the final thanks to nobody being able to beat him in the night duel, in four attempts he won every single duel and earned the respectable nickname Cobra.
Sending out Wijk
Now Tony Rickardsson is the new King of the Night Duel. And his latest victim was Anna Wijk on Sunday evening.

The entire episode had been about the floorball hero’s incredibly focused gaze and unique winning skull. But no one seems to be able to match Tony’s terrible wrists and absolutely world-class reaction skills – and we saw proof of that again when Wijk became the next participant to leave the program because of the motoring legend.
– It feels a little empty. I’m of course happy for the promotion, but I also suffer with you, says Rickardsson and turns to Anna.
– Tony will be dangerous, he has been here twice and won twice. He’s on g now!, she replies.
Damn nice
“Papa Tony”, as the others call him, will now be feared when darkness falls. And if we look at the competition, there are not very many people who are immediately known for their reaction abilities.

A cyclist, a hockey player, a slalom skier, a soccer player and an adventurer probably don’t scare Tony right away in a night duel. It would probably be the wrestler Jimmy Samuelsson who can have quick pinches after every half-nelson and it could be a terrible duel if they are pitted against each other in the future.
– I think the night duel is fun and very exciting. It’s a strange feeling but I like the competition format, admits the new Cobra.

You really wish Tony Rickardsson would remain in the SVT program, not least because he is so damn nice. The moment just before the night duel with all the participants goes straight to the heart and is one of the episode’s finest moments.
– We just want to say “goodbye” again and I usually have a hard time with this. But I still think I’ll fit in and get a hug anyway, says an emotional Tony.
