It was only a few days after the Malmbanan was opened following the previous derailment that the next derailment occurred at 8pm on Saturday.
According to the Swedish Transport Administration, there is damage to sleepers, switches and catenary lines on a stretch approximately six kilometers north of the former derailment area.
What caused the derailment, where seven carriages are said to have ended up off the track, is unknown.
“We now have to do a careful analysis and assessment of the scope. Of course, it feels very sad that this is happening so close to the latest derailment,” says Simon Sunnasection manager railway, Swedish Transport Administration, in a press release.
Only on Monday afternoon can the Swedish Transport Administration say more about how extensive the damage to the rails is.
The first derailment occurred on 17 December 2023 and led to a train stoppage for 65 days.
