When it comes to the toughest films of all time, The 120 Days of Sodom cannot be missing from any list. The scandalous work by Pier Paolo Pasolini, also known by its original title Saló, was allowed not uncut in Germany for decades to be published. At the end of 2022 it was announced that The 120 Days of Sodom had been removed from the index.
Now Pasolini’s timelessly shocking classic has hit the next milestone ahead of its impending Uncut release.
The 120 Days of Sodom has received its FSK approval
As cutting reports report, Pasolini’s film was re-examined by the FSK with an 18 stamp. As a result, Saló can now appear uncut in stores without a youth rating. A corresponding release from the Wicked Vision label, which prompted the re-examination, has not yet been announced. But that is likely to change soon with the FSK 18 release.
After publication in 1976, Pasolini’s work was confiscated in Germany. The uncut version was therefore not allowed to be advertised, sold or demonstrated. Salò has also been in countries such as Italy, France and Australia banned at least temporarily.
The plot of The 120 Days of Sodom takes place in the fascist-occupied part of Italy, where four privileged women and men from the regime capture a group of young adolescents in a castle. Here the victims are subjected to different forms of Humiliation, torture and other perversions exposed.
