We mainly know Pieterse for her successes in cyclo-cross and mountain biking. She won national and international medals in both disciplines. Next Saturday, however, Pieterse will compete in her first road race of the season. The Amersfoortse starts in the Belgian classic Omloop het Nieuwsblad. Last year she rode two road races, with her sixth place in the iconic Strade Bianche being the most sensational. “But I wasn’t surprised by that at all,” says 57-year-old Gerritsen. “I think she can even win the Strade Bianche in a few years,” he is immediately clear.
