Pittsburgh Penguins Erik Karlsson scored his 800th career NHL point in tonight’s game against the New York Islanders.
– Hopefully more milestones await, he says.
The historic mark was achieved with an assist then Erik Karlsson together with the Swedish teammate Richard Rakell played out Marcus Pettersson who scored the first goal of the match a bit into the first period.
– It took three Swedes for it to become something, says Karlsson to Aftonbladet.
The New York Islanders turned around in the second period with three goals in a row, including a goal Simon Holmström. Pittsburgh managed to equalize, but the Islanders decided in overtime with the final score 5–4.

Swedish star defenseman Erik Karlsson last year became the first defenseman in 30 years to score at least 100 points in an NHL season. He has now scored a total of 185 goals and 615 assists in 973 games during his NHL career.
– The fact that such figures come up only shows that you are getting old. 800 is nice, but hopefully more milestones await. I look ahead, says the 33-year-old.

He is the second best point scorer among Swedish NHL defensemen of all time, by quite some distance Nicklas Lidström at 1,142, but now 13 points ahead Börje Salming which reached 787.
Karlsson’s Pittsburgh has lost five of its last six games.
