The sports holiday week has started for many, while others have to wait another week or two. When the children have sports leave, it is also not uncommon for the parents to take time off, pile the family into the car and drive to Sälen or Åre.

But how is the weather expected to be now that the sports holiday has begun in the two classic ski resorts? News24 have spoken to SMHI’s meteorologist Marie Staerk which explains where there is the most chance of both sun and crisp temperatures.
– The temperature is on the negative side in both Sälen and Åre going forward. In Sälen the temperatures are at minus one, but it can be a little milder during the day compared to Åre. Then it could be plus degrees on some days, she says.

Staerk also tells us what the forecasts promise when it comes to precipitation in the form of snowfall.
– It can be quite sunny and closer to the weekend there can be precipitation of rain mixed with snow in Sälen, she says and adds:
– In Åre, on the other hand, it looks like there will be a little more snowfall. During week nine, it can get colder even during the day with sub-zero temperatures and then the precipitation can decrease a bit even in Åre.
She emphasizes, however, that in the mountain areas things can always vary rapidly as large local variations can mean changes in different areas.
