Biathlon: Heavy finish for the Swedes in the Biathlon World Cup

Huge success in yesterday’s relay. But when the WC ended with the men’s mass start, the Swedes were not even close to a medal.

Martin Ponsiluoma shot away immediately and Sebastian Samuelsson accounted for three misses in his third shot.

– He blocked low, high and it was quite rough. It is not this exuberant “Sebbe” that we get to see. The discharge that took place yesterday he has to pay for today, says national team coach Johan Hagström.

“Tired in the head”

Samuelsson explains that it was difficult to recharge after yesterday.

– I was a little tired in the head today. I failed to mobilize the power needed. When I got those three bars, I had a hard time squeezing out the last bit of energy, he says and continues:

– I have slept a little worse than before, but it has still been completely okay. It was an amazing experience yesterday.

No Swedish individual WC medals

Ponsiluoma finished 13th and Samuelsson finished 23rd.

Thus, Sweden was without individual medals this WC.

– I am disappointed that there was no individual medal. But there are small margins, says Samuelsson.

Johannes Thingnes Bö completed the Norwegian success (twelve medals, four of them gold) by claiming another WC gold in superior style.

Silver medalist Andrejs Restorgujevs, Latvia, became Sunday’s big bang. Frenchman Quentin Fillon Maillet took home the bronze.
