Few document editors can compete with the convenience and simplicity of Google’s Workspace suite of Docs, Sheets, and Slides. These utilities offer seamless synchronization between operating systems, convenient sharing, and a clean user interface for exchanging ideas and collaborating through comments and suggestions. However, there is ample room for improvement in the user interface of the comments section in these apps. Google is finally addressing these concerns, along with a minor visual update to modernize the user interface.
Google Workspace has been renewed with a new update
Google’s Workspace files can be shared via links and special email invitations for collaboration. Invited people can share their thoughts on the file content by leaving comments added to the selected text. But so many comments and responses from multiple collaborators can quickly become difficult to navigate, especially if you’re the one in charge of implementing suggested changes.
Google recently announced an overhaul of the comments section in Docs, Sheets, and Slides. We’ll use Docs as an example to explain, but the same changes apply to other Workspace utilities. When you use the Comments button next to the revision history button on the web, a new sidebar with comments opens. Instead of drowning in a sea of feedback, Google has a For You section that only contains comments you need to take action on. The other tab, All comments, displays all comments in a sidebar. You can also enable this view under Appearance and Show all comments.
