Swedes on Russia’s wanted list – wanted for war crimes

Russia’s list of 96,000 wanted people has been leaked.

Among other things, there is a prime minister, an American senator – and two Swedes.

According to Russia, the criminal suspects are linked to the fighting in Ukraine.

The Russian newspaper The media zone has found through open sources the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs’ list of 96,752 wanted persons.

About a hundred of them are soldiers who fought on Ukraine’s side in the war against Russia. Two of them are Swedes.

One of the men is aged 25 and traveled down to Ukraine shortly after the Russian invasion in 2022. The other has a background in Swedish neo-Nazism and participated in the fighting in Donbass back in 2014.

The warning: To be punished

The Russian embassy in Stockholm has previously warned that Swedes who participate in the fighting will be punished:

– All foreigners, including Swedes, who decided to earn the Kiev regime’s bloody money will definitely be punished in accordance with Russian and international legislation, they said in a statement last September.

The Russian wanted list also includes senior Western politicians.

One of them: Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas.

“Russia’s move is not surprising. It’s yet another proof that what I’m doing is right,” she writes on X.

Wanted after the wanted

The prime minister is accused of having “destroyed and damaged monuments depicting Soviet soldiers”. Estonian State Secretary Taimar Peterkorp and Lithuanian Culture Minister Simonas Kairys are also on the list.

Kallas has been defended by several European leaders after the announcement:

– Putin’s move is another proof of your courage and Estonia’s leadership when it comes to defending democracy and freedom. The Spanish people and Europe are behind you, says Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.

US Senator Lindsey Graham and Piotr Hofmański, head of the International Criminal Court in The Hague, which indicted Vladimir Putin for war crimes, are also wanted in Russia.
