Development of the MMO shooter Anthem stopped 3 years ago, but the game continues to enjoy a loyal fan base. A plan has now been put together on reddit to force EA to develop an Anthem 2.0.
What is the situation at Anthem?
“Anthem deserves a second chance”
This is the status now: Even though Anthem failed in the eyes of the general public and was a flop, the game, with its strong gameplay loop and unique aesthetic, still found many fans who like and appreciate it to this day.
They fantasize about how great it could be if only EA had developed Anthem further.
In a post on reddit, 3 years after the end, people are now demanding: “Let’s bring Anthem back.” If No Man’s Sky and Cyberpunk 2077 get a second attempt, then Anthem can do it too, they say.
Fans are encouraged to post the hashtag #reviveanthem on social media and get EA to make a statement.
Does this work? No, probably not. There were a few posts on Twitter with the hashtag on February 9th, but nothing major.
One player says nothing has matched Anthem. But the hashtag wave is fading quickly.
However: It’s impressive that the Reddit post received 2200 upvotes and 628 comments. That’s an unusual amount for a game that’s been dead for three years.
This shows what potential Anthem had and how sad it is that so little was made of so much. Today EA is certainly mourning the title.
Bitterness towards EA dominates the discussion
How do people discuss it? There is a great longing for Anthem, you can always read that about the game. Many people think back to the title with love and sadness. They loved the feeling of gliding through the air with their hero, swooping down on enemies and blasting them with a hail of missiles.
But there is also a lot of cynicism against EA under the thread at Anthem. They have already sunk many great games, such as Titanfall. EA is “deaf to feedback,” it says. They only care about profit. You can rage, scream and stand upside down, even hack a game – nothing will happen as long as EA doesn’t see a hefty profit.
CD Projekt Red never gave up on Cyberpunk, EA but Anthem, it says there and you can almost feel the salt on your tongue.
A lot of nostalgia has now been replaced by bitterness.
