City councilors are recommending approval of declaring the Five Pin Bowling Championships a municipally significant event.

Councilors voted unanimously in favor of a motion brought forward by Coun. Richard Carpenter at a committee meeting on Tuesday.

The championships, taking place March 27 to 30 at Echo Bowl, 760 Colborne St., will bring about 185 bowlers from across southern Ontario.
Organizers have applied to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario for a special occasion permit for the event to allow the sale of alcohol. Proceeds from alcohol sales will be used to support youth bowling events.
Declaration of the event as municipally significant is a requirement for a special occasion permit.
