In two weeks, one of the most exciting series reboots of the year is coming to Disney+. Based on James Clavell’s 1975 novel of the same name, the samurai adventure epic Shogun is Unleashed epic battles as well as historical dramas in Japan in the year 1600.
That’s what the samurai series Shōgun is about
The story revolves around British navigator John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), who is on a Dutch merchant ship on the way to Japan located. After getting into a maritime accident, John ends up stranded on the coast of Japan.
Here he ends up as a prisoner in the court of the daimyo Toranaga (John Wick 4 star Hiroyuki Sanada), whose trust he slowly gains. But after John falls in love with the translator Lady Toda Mariko (Anna Sawai), he has to make a difficult decision in order to survive.

The original novel was filmed as a series in 1980. At that time, the Japanese actor Toshirō Mifune (The Seven Samurai) played the main role. The new version, for which power director Charlotte Brändström was behind the camera, among other things, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings, is designed as a miniseries.
When does Shogun start on Disney+?
The first two episodes of the adventure series arrive on February 27, 2024 to Disney+. After that, one of the ten episodes will appear on the streaming service every week.
