The relatively newly built primary school Nya Raketskolan in Kiruna will be closed during the spring semester. This means that approximately 700 students will be moved to new premises, local media reports.
The reason for the decision is moisture damage in the premises and health problems among both staff and students as a result.
According to the Kiruna municipality’s website, there are still no answers as to how the move will take place, or where all students and employees will move. “It may happen that premises that were not initially intended for education have to be used, and then we have to adapt ourselves and the premises accordingly” according to the municipality.
The new Rocket School has previously made headlines when the school’s lack of teachers led to a protective shutdown. In the past, the School Inspectorate has also directed sharp criticism at serious abuses at the school. The criticism concerned, among other things, the lack of teachers and that students missed out on lessons.
