Calgary’s Swedish goalkeeper Jacob Markström has been named by the NHL as last week’s top star in the league.
The 34-year-old from Gävle played big when Calgary took three away victories in a row last week.
He opened the night with 21 saves in a 4–1 win against Boston. The fine efforts continued with 37 saves as Calgary beat New Jersey 5–3 and he then finished the week with 35 saves, including 16 in the third period, as the NY Islanders were defeated 5–2.
The article continues below.
The week’s rescue statistics landed at 93.9 percent.
Jacob Markström has been playing in Calgary since 2020, where he arrived after representing Vancouver for seven seasons.
However, the night’s clash was not as successful for Calgary, who were defeated by the home team NY Rangers with 0-2 in Madison Square Garden.
Markström conceded a goal that came when Will Cuylle through a game reversal was able to push the puck into the second period. Goal number two came in an open box with 19 seconds left to play.
