Two Chatham-Kent nominees are in the running for Southern Ontario Tourism Conference Awards.

Shannon Prince, who recently retired as curator of the Buxton National Historic Site and Museum, is a finalist for Ontario Southwest’s luminary of the year honors.

And the Dresden Night Market’s reusable cup program is a finalist for sustainability trailblazer of the year.
The luminary award recognizes an individual “whose remarkable contributions have illuminated the tourism industry with an unmatched dedication, unwavering passion and relentless commitment,” a release said.
It goes to someone embodying the industry’s essence, “radiating the spirit and brilliance that make this sector not just a profession, but a vocation,” regardless of how lokng they’ve been in the sector.
The sustainability trailblazer award recognizes a business, group or individual’s innovative strategy to improve experiences through a sustainable tourism lens, aligning with the United Nations World Tourism Organizations sustainable development goals.
“We are extremely proud of both Shannon Prince and the hard-working team behind the Dresden Night Market,” Shannon Paiva, Chatham-Kent’s tourism development supervisor, said in the release.
“To see both as finalists. . . reinforces the significance tourism represents in Chatham-Kent, and it’s wonderful to see that their accomplishments are being recognized.”
