Swimming: Last chance for the men to qualify for the Olympics

The Swedish men’s 4×100 meter freestyle team – Isak Eliasson, Robin Hansson, Marcus Holmquist and Björn Seeliger – have tried, but failed to qualify for the Olympics before. Now is the last chance when the WC in long track is decided in Doha, Qatar, starting on February 11.

– I am astagged. We talk about it all the time. Everyone feels very nervous, a little nervous. It will be fun, says Robin Hanson to SVT Sport.

In the WC in Japan 2023 there was the chance to get to the Olympics, but there the team did not take the chance. Now improvement is required in order not to miss a ticket to Paris.

– It is difficult to say in terms of time, but it is required that we are on our toes when it starts and that we all press down on times we may not have been to yet, says Robin Hanson.

“Needs to be up and running”

Given that the team competition is so early in the championship, it can be difficult to be up and running quickly enough. Something that the team will try to change this time. Already on the first day of the WC, the team needs to be ready.

– We need to be up and running earlier than we were. We have done races up until now, and will do some races tomorrow too just to get into the rhythm and then be ready to drive on Sunday, says Björn Seeliger to SVT Sport.

Two Swedish swimmers have had to drop out of the WC due to illness – freestyle swimmer Elias Persson and butterfly swimmer Oskar Hoff.
