At the beginning of the Second World War, Trui van Lier founded a childcare facility on, at Prins Hendriklaan 4 in Utrecht. In this shelter Kindjeshaven she took care of Jewish children whose parents were in hiding. They were later housed in other hiding places by members of the resistance. She helped at least 150 children through the war.
