Bankruptcies are on the rise in Stockholm County – Building alarm: More people are cheating on their debts

A hard-pressed economy means that the percentage of bankruptcies in Stockholm County increased by around 30 percent last year compared to 2022, shows a new report from Region Stockholm. The increase is at the same level as the country as a whole.

The situation is worst in the construction industry.

– I don’t think the bottom has been reached, but it will look even worse this summer. I think it will be like in the early 90s with a total stop in the construction industry and a lot of unemployment, says Tomas Cullberg, chairman of Byggnads Stockholm-Gotland.

In order to save their finances in connection with a bankruptcy, more and more companies in the industry use an approach that is common when there is a recession, according to Byggnads.
