How many students does a primary school need?
The government sets a minimum number of students in a primary school, the so-called closure standard. Schools with a student population that does not meet this standard for 3 years in a row will no longer receive money from the government. When funding stops, this often means that the school has to close.
This standard differs per municipality: in sparsely populated areas the minimum number of 23 students applies. The standard is higher in cities because more people live there.
