Vittorio Sgarbi: “I resign, I prefer to be free to speak”

Vittorio Sgarbi I resign I prefer to be free to

(Finance) – “In the letter my resignation is here as undersecretary”. With these words the undersecretary of Culture Vittorio Sgarbi announced his resignation today, speaking at Nicola Porro’s “La Ripartenza” event at the Cariplo Foundation in Milan.

“I have taken note of the my alleged incompatibility in talking about art, to give conferences, to present exhibitions, to present artists, which I do not consider incompatible”, added Sgarbi, specifying “the conference I gave today would have been incompatible. Talking about Michelangelo is incompatible with being undersecretary of culture.”

“If this is the case, perhaps another Court will verify it, but I will at this moment I prefer to be free to talk how I want and when I want of Michelangelo, of Dante, of Niccolò dell’Arca and not being an undersecretary which becomes a form of restriction or delimitation of fundamental prerogatives”.

“It’s not that there is persecution on this – he remarked – there was a specific action to lead me to resign“, remarked Sgarbi, adding “I said that I am resigning and I do so when the relevant body recognized the incompatibility between press conferences, presentations of exhibitions, exhibitions, presentations of artists, speeches and the role of undersecretary.”.

“The antitrust considered the indications of anonymous letters as credible indications, verified them and declared the incompatibility. I heard about it around 2.30pm – the art critic put up with it – I took the plane and had time to ponder what choice to make, I thought about giving this conference free of charge. This is the first conference of the season in which there is no incompatibility, otherwise we could easily say that Sgarbi couldn’t do it.”
