“In fact, model railways were no longer that popular. Modern PC games have left everyone behind their screens,” says Dirk Jan Oudshoorn of Modelspoor Vrienden Houten, who describes himself as ‘an old fart but young at heart’. But the hobby attracted new young fanatics during the corona period. “Everyone sat at home and the attic was cleaned out. The Märklin and Fleischmann boxes were dusted and dad and grandpa put them on to see if it still worked. The young generation saw that and liked it too.”
