Some flops can be recognized from a distance. At least a few creative people seem to have such talent. Approximately Mega star Adele, who warned her friend Jennifer Lawrence about to take on a role in the sci-fi blockbuster Passengers. But the Hunger Games star ignored the musician’s verdict. And slid into ruin.
On TV: Sci-Fi hit with Jennifer Lawrence, which flopped for several reasons
Passengers follows Jim (Chris Pratt) and Aurora (Lawrence), who are in cryogenic sleep on their way to a new Earth-like planet to live there. However, a malfunction means that they wake up on board their spaceship 90 years too early and are no longer able to return to their sleeping chambers. They prepare to spend their entire lives together.

Passengers failed with many critics (via Metacritic). Financially it didn’t turn out to be a catastrophe (more on that in The Numbers), but given the film’s blockbuster budget, many observers would have expected a higher box office result. Adele apparently knew the outcome of events beforehand, as Lawrence told the New York Times:
Adele had told me that I [Passengers] shouldn’t do it! She was like, “I feel like space movies are the new vampire movies.” I should have listened to her.
The vampire film comparison is debatable. What is certain, however, is that Passengers did not develop into a brilliant hit in any respect. Since the film’s release, the filmmakers’ alleged concern has been virtually decried. to romanticize a ruthless attack, How Collider explained. In this respect, Lawrence would probably do well to consult her advisor Adele in the future.
