Erik Mobärg has waited a long time, but in the end the hit came. The Swedish ski cross rider took the first World Cup victory of his career in the Italian Alleghe.
It was a thrilling final where the Swiss Alex Fiva long had the lead, but Erik Mobärg managed to pass when there were only a few turns left to the finish line. It passed Mobärg 28 hundredths ahead of Fiva.
The Swede’s joy was unmistakable and after clenching his fists and letting out a roar of victory, he also received a hearty hug from the Swiss runner-up.

A little later, Mobärg stood with a smile in the goal area, where he gave his first interview as a World Cup winner on Viaplay’s broadcast:
– I had a couple of fantastic skis under me and was hungry today. It reached all the way up. It’s my first win so I’m really happy and proud.
26-year-old Mobärg has been a name to be reckoned with for several years with, among other things, two WC bronzes, but there has not been any VC victory. Then has little brother David Mobärg had previously been more fortunate with a total of seven victories in the World Cup, but in Alleghe he was eliminated in the quarter-finals.
The women’s class was won by India SherretCanada. Sandra Näslund is rehabilitating from knee surgery and at best could be back before the season is over.
