You didn’t see this coming at all!
The giant talent Tilda Johansson is leaving biathlon and changing sports.
– I feel much better now, she admits to SVT.
Expectations have been high for the giant talent Tilda Johansson. But at the beginning of the year, the 24-year-old biathlete announced that she is taking a break from all competition for the indefinite future.
Tilda’s comeback
The Swede, who won the IBU Cup last year, has had to struggle with motivation and needed to step away from his career as a biathlete to feel better again. Now comes the big surprise that Johansson makes a lightning comeback and also changes sports.

Tilda is already making a comeback this weekend in Åsarna – as a cross-country skier.
– I think I feel much better now and feel great joy in cross-country skiing and training. It’s very nice to be able to go there and just do what I like, without performance and result goals. Of course I want to do well, but the goal will be to ride with as much joy as possible, she says in an interview with SVT.
The national team’s response
Johansson is registered for all freestyle races with pursuit start, distance race and sprint.
– A week and a half ago I contacted the leader of my club in Sollefteå and asked if I have a FIS code (with the International Ski Federation) so I can go. Then they activated it and it was so close, she tells the TV channel and opens up about the biathlon.
– I have no desire for biathlon so far. Now that I feel better and my motivation is up, I feel that it might be a good start with a distance where I can ride without demands.

The 24-year-old also goes behind the back of the national biathlon team, which had no idea at all about this rapid comeback.
– I fully respect her decision to take a break from biathlon and then in a way it is a break from me as well. What she does in her spare time, whether she wants to run cross-country, canoe or play golf, I will not comment. It’s not that important to me either, for me it’s important that she feels good. Then what happens in the future is still difficult to say, I just wish that she feels well and whether it is with or without biathlon, we will see, says the national team captain John Luke to Expressen and admits that they have had no contact at all.
– No, I have nothing to do with it. I have told her that I support her and am there if she needs help. If she wants to compete in distance or something else, she is free to do so.
