Toll rates are being revised upwards on February 1, 2024. In France, here is the portion of the motorway which is experiencing the biggest increase.
Every year, motorists cannot escape the increase in motorway toll prices in France, which is effective from February 1, 2024. Once again, it will directly hit the wallets of the French. On average, in 2024, most motorway concessionaires will expect an increase of around 3%. A price calculated partly on inflation and the investment plans of motorway companies, and in accordance with the concession contract signed with the State. The authorities thus check that the price scales are compliant. In detail, the sector leader, Vinci, which owns 4,443 kilometers of motorways, announced an increase of 2.7%. Among the 142 sections of motorways crossing French territory, one of them well known to motorists and tourists will experience the largest increase this year, in comparison with the other sections.
If you are used to taking the A7 motorway to go on vacation or for business trips, you should be concerned. Because to go from Lyon to Marseille, you will undoubtedly pass by this building, known to be “the work of all records” and which is operated by the Eiffage company. This is the Millau Viaduct toll, located in the Tarn valley. This portion of motorways will experience a very strong increase of 5.83% outside the summer period. In summer, the price increase will be 5.56%.
According to our calculations, crossing the Millau Viaduct would cost around 10.69 euros outside the summer period for a light vehicle (class 1), compared to 10.10 euros in 2023. In the summer period, the cost rises to 13 .20 euros, instead of 12.50 euros last year. Prices will also be higher for intermediate vehicles (class 2), heavy goods vehicles and coaches (class 3 and 4). As for motorcycles, sidecars and trikes, they will now pay a little more: 6.33 euros at the toll in summer, and 6.35 euros the rest of the year.
